We had so much fun welcoming the next group of Eagles to the nest! We showed off all the great things GMMS has to offer and can't wait to have the class of 2029 join in the fun!
The GMMS library, led by teacher-librarian Mrs. Wolles, was awarded the 21st Century School Library Award and recognized as Exemplary Status. The South Dakota State Library, a division of the SD Department of Education, formally and annually recognizes schools with libraries that meet the characteristics of a 21st century school library through its place, professional, and program. Congrats, to Mrs. Wolles! What an honor!
As Lions they roared, as Eagles they soared! And now they're ready to fly off onto new adventures! George McGovern retirees Tina, Steve, Jeff, and Terry leave big shoes to fill. We will miss their faces in the halls, but are excited to see where the their new journeys take them!
Look at the Eagles who were recognized during 8th Grade Honors Night! It was an awesome celebration of students' accomplishments, including academic, music, and athletic awards and the presentation of the Elite 8! Watch out world - these students are going to change you!
Thanks, to everyone who worked to make this night a success!
Goodbyes are hard, but we are so proud of our 8th grade RISE students! We held a graduation ceremony and celebration for these soon to be high schoolers last Friday and it was a wonderful time! Thanks, to all the staff and families who made this special event a huge success! These Eagles are ready to soar!
We are so proud of our 8th grade students who participated in the district-wide Poetry Slam at the Washington Pavilion! They were strong representatives of GMMS and our core values of courage and resilience! We were also so impressed by our 8th grade student body, who displayed honor and kindness while they listened to and supported the poets. We couldn't be more proud, Eagles!!

Today is National School Nurse Day and we are having a blast celebrating the one and only Nurse Tiffany, most amazing school nurse on the planet! Tiffany goes above and beyond everyday for the staff and students of GMMS! Thanks, Nurse Tiffany!! We appreciate you!
We had a great time celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at GMMS! Student council provided teachers with so many goodies, including gift cards and Scooters coffee, and Promising Futures treated staff to bagels for breakfast today! Our teachers are THE BEST and we are so grateful for the work they do!
The most obvious way to celebrate our students' efforts on the South Dakota State assessments is to host a Pretzel Day PARTY when they're finished! The counseling department invited all students and staff to stop down for warm pretzel bites and delicious dips yesterday - YUM! We are so proud of your hard work, Eagles!!
We love the partnership we have with Jefferson High School! The JHS mentor program connects 11th grade mentors with 8th grade GMMS mentees, which offers our future Cavs an opportunity to have a connection with an upperclassmen when they begin their freshmen year! Mentors play games, help with homework, and even enjoy ice cream with their mentee (shout out to the B&G Milkyway on 12th Street for providing treats)! Thanks, JHS!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for...TEACHERS! South Dakota State University recognized our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week by delivering some of their famous ice cream! What a delicious way to treat our outstanding staff! :)

Superintendent Jane Stavem hosted nearly 50 future educators Tuesday for "Bagels with the Boss." Student teachers currently working in SFSD classrooms joined us to learning about job opportunities, hear about the support offered by the District's Instructional Coaches, and connect with leadership. We look forward to adding many of these new teachers to our team in the Fall!
The Sioux Falls School District is excited to partner with Siouxland Libraries for a community-wide reading initiative. Throughout the month of March, students, staff, parents, and community members are being encouraged to track how many books they read. View the Count here! https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/everybody-reads The goal is to create a community of readers ages 0 –100!
